The Brief
Explore form design through the investigation of various computer modelling software.
My Direction

Given my interest in sustainable design, I decided to look specifically at how the form of objects can act as sub conscious reminders.
My aim is to create a set of everyday objects which use their form to reflect the hidden truths of actions that lead to the climate crisis. I will look specifically at food waste, tea and coffee harvesting and paper recycling.
Fruit Bowl - Food Waste

I started with this fruit bowl idea. the form is inspired by an apply core in order to remind users the importance of composting and disposing of food waste responsibly.
I used Rhino with the Grasshopper extention in order to create this form. Grasshopper is very effective at generating complex intricate forms in an efficient manner, following success of the plyometric modelling code.
Letter Holder - Paper Recycling

Finally, I designed a letter holder which uses water ripples and droplets in its form and texture in order to remind the users of how much water is used, wasted and through the paper production industry. This aims to encourage users to recycle their paper more.
I modelled this design in Fusion360 and then used the plyometric design window within blender to add the random water droplets to the surface of the piece.
Mug - Tea & Coffee Consumption

I then decided to create a mug which uses it's form as well as texture to remind the user where their coffee and tea comes from, and the issues that comes with the vast scale at which these products are harvested.
The form of the mug itself is designed around a coffee bean, and the texture that is applied to the surface mimics that of a hand full of coffee beans. Finally, the handle of the mug is designed to look and feel like a tea leaf.
I used blender to create the form of this mug and then exported it into mug box in order to apply the more specific textures to the surface.

A collection of everyday household products that have been designed so that their form reminds the consumer of their individual responsibilities when it comes to the climate crisis. The aim is that users will see these object everyday as a constant but subtle reminder of what they can do to help.
